7:00 PM  –  8:00 PM

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. On this historic centennial, we will discuss local suffragists and how their contributions to writing, art, and fashion aided in the long and difficult struggle for enfranchisement. In this we will delve into this compelling history that features Amelia Jenks Bloomer who lived in Council Bluffs from 1852-1894. Bloomer was an early suffragist, editor, and social activist. Bloomer was also a fashion advocate who worked to change women’s clothing styles away from lengthy dresses and corseted layers. The garment and style of "Bloomers" are named after the Amelia Bloomer. Enjoy a history inspired drink while you listen!
